Grace | Sweet 16

Hello, hello! It has been an embarrassingly long time since I have blogged. I’m shaking my head at myself as I write this. For those of you who do not know, I moved from North Carolina back to Pennsylvania at the tail end of April and then got married in May! It’s been a busy year to say the least but as things calm down I am finally getting back to photography which makes my soul sing.

These are some favorites of sweet Grace. She was about to turn 16 and her mom wanted to freeze this moment in time! This session took place in the fall of 2016 on Little Pisgah, a mountain top in North Carolina. As we were planning the session much of our beautiful mountains nearby were under threat of wildfires that were blazing out of control. We had to reschedule this session because there was so much smoke hanging in the air during the first date that we picked! Thankfully all of the fires were put out shortly after this session took place.

The day of the session was a gorgeous but bitter cold one! We had to take a few breaks in the car to get warmed up before braving the cold for more portraits. Despite the weather Grace was a trooper and looked stunning the entire time!

Jensen Family | Fall Portraits

This fall session is one of my favorites! It was so cold and windy on the day of the session that we almost decided to reschedule. I’m so glad we didn’t though! Our “rain date” ended up being even colder and we had so much fun during the session despite the weather.

Together we decided on the Asheville botanical gardens where the fall colors and beautiful landscape paired well with the Jensen’s love for the outdoors. We saw a handful of people while we were there, all of which were getting their photos taken too! It was nice to know we weren’t the only ones crazy enough to brave the cold.

I had so many ideas for this beautiful family and they patiently humored me with all of them. Here are some favorites of the beautiful Jensen family…

“Loved you then, love you still, always have, always will.”

I love going to the Asheville Arboretum for family portraits because of its relaxed feel and gorgeous views. Prior to this session, I had only gone to the Arboretum during the week and each time was pleasantly surprised to find that my clients and I were some of the few people there. I was pushing my luck to think the same thing would happen for this beautiful family’s session. When I pulled into the parking lot the entire thing was packed! There were people everywhere!  I was so worried that there were simply going to be too many people to take the photos I had planned for. I said a few nervous prayers and walked in to do my best. Once again, God provided and despite the number of people the Arboretum did not disappoint! We had a wonderful time basking in the sun and laughing throughout the session. I can honestly say that all of my clients are so much fun to work with but these kids were such a riot! They kept us laughing the entire time!

Tons of fun was had at the Asheville Arboretum during this session and somehow we managed to have the place to ourselves! It was a gorgeous evening filled with sunlight and laughter.

The most treasured heirlooms are the sweet memories of family.

On the Up and Up

So far, this is one of my favorite images created this year. It was so much fun to put together and I’m realizing that strange lighting is becoming a big motivator for me. I’m all about that light! Much of this photo was about me trying a new editing technique. I really do love putting together levitation images because I have always loved the idea of flying and dream about it often. Because of this though, levitation photos are a fallback for me when I’m feeling uninspired. Almost as if, “I can’t think of anything new and exciting… where’s a place I haven’t levitated before???”. With this image though I was transforming my comfort with levitation photos and turning it into something completely different for me which felt good. This year has been full of so much growth for me and my conceptual photography!

This image has personal significance to me because of the events that have transpired within the past couple of weeks. Since I was recently in a car accident things have been messy and getting my life back to normal has taken time. I’m at the point now where the worst is over and I’m moving forward again. It feels good!
